About us
Taiwan's geography, climate, and environment are very suitable to the growth of tea trees, enabling Taiwan to become the only place in the world with tea producing areas for non-fermented, partially fermented, and fully fermented teas. Because the soil, climate, altitude, and production methods differ in each tea growing area, the quality, fragrance, flavor, and aftertaste of each tea they produce differ as well. This results in each tea growing region in Taiwan producing its own unique tea, making Taiwan famous around the world for its tea.
Taiwan can produce green tea, Paochong tea, Oolong tea, and black tea. But in recent years it has produced mainly Paochong tea and Oolong tea, with black tea and green tea being only supplementary types. Taiwan tea is given high marks for quality both home and abroad, and it is the most popular special local gift and souvenir product for Taiwanese traveling overseas and tourists coming to Taiwan from abroad, making it famous worldwide.
Although the technology and techniques for producing tea in Taiwan originated in mainland China’s Fujian Province, in recent years, thanks to continual research and improvements by the Tea and Beverage Research Station and other related units, Taiwan already has its own unique methods, and is especially well-known worldwide for its specialized production technology and techniques for partially fermented tea. The special tea produced in each area not only has a unique floral fragrance, but also the sweet flavors have been highly acclaimed by consumers. Taiwan tea has also gained widespread attention for its healthy benefit properties, and this has intangibly driven new development in the Oolong tea industry.
In response to economic and trade globalization, liberalization, and digitalization and the new agricultural situation in Taiwan following its entry into the World Trade Organization, Taiwan’s tea industry is developing in the direction of becoming a tourism and leisure tea industry that integrates tea with eco-tourism, guesthouses, and the food and beverage industry in a way that allows consumers to experience tea production and tea culture. Tapping into the flow of tourists can help drive development in the tea industry. At the same time, there is currently development of international marketing of Taiwan teas.
